As a group of four we chose to use the song 'Gotta Boyfriend' by Frank Musik. We chose this track as it has a very repetitive beat that is catchy and easily memorable. This track is a typical dance song that would be popular in clubs as the rhythm is easy to dance to.
His voice has been modified to sound slightly electronic as this makes it different to other songs of the same genre. This makes it stand out from other dance tracks which is a main reason why it was chosen.
The beat of the song is very fast suggesting that the scene inside the club is going to be at a fast pace, lively and lots of fun. This would be good for a music video as we can create a clubbing scene in a studio or at an actual club to stage a fun filled night. This will also allow us to build on our camera skills as we can have quick shots that we can edit to be really fast cuts on the screen. This will make the video very visually appealing and exciting to watch. In theory our objective is to get people to buy the song to get them ready for a good night out or to play for themselves at their own party.
The Lyrics To 'Gotta Boyfriend'
Boyfriend
B b boyfriend
Boyfriend boyfriend
Boyfriend
So you gotta gotta boy right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
Cos I know we could maybe, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
It's so more hard when I'm not right here with you
You make me do things, I don't want to do
You call me in and I know there's so much more
Why do you pick me up to kick me to the floor
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
Cos I know maybe we could maybe, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
I go to clubs
You go to clubs to
But my friends tell me that I don't have a clue
So you can give me one the next time I'm out
So I got something to scream and shout like
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
We could share, aiirrr, aiirrr
Now I wonder, why this way
I don't know where you really strayed and your empty touch
Fractures all of my skin
How happy I could be with the one without you in
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
I know maybe we could, we could share
But I don't think that's very, very fair
Gotta boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
So you got a boyfriend right here
Have you got a boyfriend out there
One thing I have noticed when looking at these lyrics is that they are very simple and repetitive, just like the rhythm. There is also not a specific narrative to the song except seemingly a boy asking a girl if she has a boyfriend. This allows us to create our own narrative for the music video which could take the form of a male luring a girl in a club and constantly wanting her attention. This therefore enables us to have our own imaginative picture of what the video could look like.
Another factor helping is to decide this is that there is no music video already available for this track. this therefore means we can create our own ideas and not be swayed by previous convection's that have been crated by the original artist.

Email to Record Company
It is important that we get copyright agreements form the record company before we begin making our music video. Frankmusik belongs to Island Records and so on their website I contacted them with this email. It is to explain why we want to use the music and what we are hoping to achieve. Now that this is complete we can begin filming and designing our digipack around this style of music and the artist.
Analysis of Other Music Videos By this Artist

This music video begins with an establishing shot of the artist, it is low-angled shot with Frankmusik standing on a car. Following from this are lots of establishing shots of the surrounding neighbourhood. We see quick shots of the girl walking through the park. We see different types of shots of her with some just of her feet and other types like midshots. this fmailiarises us with her charecter and her style.
There are lots of slow-motion shots and added affects in this video with him slowly jumping from a thin fence to a car with no hint of difficulty. It appeared as if he glided through the air. This makes him seem confident and 'cool' as no one is physically capable of doing this. Also the fence is in pink which you would probably not see in a normal neighbourhood. This is a familiar aspect for Frankmusik as a common theme on his album covers is the pink typeface he uses. The audience associate these colours and additions with this artist as he is quite outgoing. his music is quite fast paced making it exciting and so the music video needs to be similar. Therefore the artist uses eccentric additions to make the audience focus on the screen. The bright colours attract the eye to this part of the screen and keeps the audience occupied and interested.
There are ots of shot revers shots of the two seperate characters to show how there journey relate to eachother. The shot of Frankmusik's feet cuts to the exact same shot of the girl's feet establishing a connection between them.
By the end of the video we estbalish the connection between the two journeys. The characters meet at the top of the hill with an establishing shot cutting to a low angle shot up the stairs where we see them come together. This is the ending to the narrative of the music video. The point of the narrative is the connection between these two chracters and so when they come together at the end we establish that they are a couple. We also realise this when they start passionately kissing. At this point there is a two shot with a blurred background making them the focal attention on the screen. This creates a narrow depth of field and can be achieved on the camera by creating a pull focus.
This narrative is similar to our idea except we are intending to use groups of male characters and groups of female characters which will create a comparison between the two personalities of the group. We did not want to rely on just one perosn for our music video as this could end up with only having small amounts of film if this person can only come and film on certain days. Having groups of people means that if one person cannot come we can fill someone else in or just leave them out of certain clips.
3 Little Words

The video begins with a fading in and out image of an over-sized keyboard then cuts to mid-shots of the artist singing to the song. Then we cut back to the over sized keyboard where we see the artist dancing to the beat on top of it. This is a craning, high angle shot that establishes the setting for the video. As he dances the keyboard lights up on each note as a different bright colour. This attracts the target audience as being males and females aged 16-24. This age group like bright colours as they associate this with having fun. The bright lights relate to the genre of the music as being pop dance and we can also associate this with the clubbing scene. In clubs they often use strobe lighting and different colours flashing. The target audience recognise this and are attracted to the music video because of this.
The camera cuts between being at the keyboard to then just showing the artist with a coloured screen behind him. Again this screen changes colour throughout the sequence, from bright orange to red, to yellow etc. These shots are still mid-shots of Frankmusik dancing and singing into the camera. this creates a connection between the artist and the audience. He is giving them eye contact drawing them in. The audience sees this and feels as if the artist is singing to them personally.
The shots of the artist and two other women dancing on the keyboard vary. There are ones that show feet movements, midshots of their faces, midshots of a singular dance, close-ups of the artist face and pans of all. The pans and the cuts between shots happen very quickly and in time with the music. This makes the video more exciting and visual as there is alot going. However, sometimes it does appear too complicated. The shots are too fast and it is hard to catch what happened. Although this would attract the target audience as it keeps them engaged in what is happening as they do not want to miss anything.
This music video, in terms of the mid-shots of the artist singing seems simple to do and we could attempt to do something similar with a green screen in the studio. The keyboard sequence may be harder to do as it would require alot of editing but if we decided to do something similar then it would be manageable.
I prefer the idea of filming in a setting that is recognisable like filming in the woods or in an urban area. This would make the shots more natural. One problem or draw back with this may be the weather. If the weather was not how we planned it to be i.e. sunny for the right period then it would be difficult to finish.
We can use a similar idea in terms of lighting and mise en scene to connect these songs by this particular artist. Like with magazines where we keep a house style across a series of copies. This would attract the same audience as they recognise this style and like it. That is why they folow this artist.

A good idea is to keep the digipack and the video consistent and stick tot he continuity of the idea. The colours need to be coherent and link to the design f the print items.
What Role Will I Play?
I will be using my previous skills of camera work to film various parts of the music video. This will allow me to develop my skills further. We will take equal share in the filming in order for us to create a fair working relationship and to enable all of us to feel like we contributed as much as one another.
When taking my shots I want to produce confident exciting frames such as extreme close-ups of people faces that are focused and show expressions. I also would like to take some shots that have a lot going on, like in a club, but making it visually appealing. To do this I may need to edit the lighting and make the frame as clutter free as possible.
I will also be editing the film that we have shot in order to create a music video that suites the rhythm of the song. For this song it looks like there will need to have a lot of quick cuts and so a lot of editing is needed. Therefore i will be using the software Final Cut Pro to make this easier.
